Galica is extremely pleased to present the first Italian solo show of Sebastiaan Bremer.
Sebastiaan Bremer’s works weave remote visions, unconscious images, fantastical and surrealistic thoughts.
The artist layers his own snapshots and family photographs with a laborious, close web of dots in inks of various colors, constituting a surface of floating sceneries, waving forms and vanishing figures.
His work develops slowly on images of somebody or something he cares for and he is removed from, making a personal and unusual “bestiary”, which includes figures, text, symbols and ghostly shapes that, when integrated with their grounds, vanish in a sea of suspended dots.
Looking at Bremer’s art-works is like sinking into subconscious: beside the photographic image there’s a neverending and dreamlike world, spreading over space and time, where glances fade away and thoughts vanish. In some works the underlying image is quite clear, in others it’s almost totally obscured, but anyway the more you look the more you can discover hidden figures, like images and mementoes rising slowly from hidden chambers of the brain.
